Gore: yes ; Torture porn: no

Yes, I write this a pack of years after the war … but thinking about it, I thought it was worth writing it.
I like gore. The viscera, the blood, the brain, the dismemberments: it’s nice. But it’s not because there is blood that I will enjoy it… and that’s why I struggle with “torture porn”. Think of Eli Roth’s Hostel or one of the very first episodes of The Walking Dead S07. You know what I mean? Pain is not the emotional register that suits me.

Alexandre Aja, an average director

Alexandre Aja does not know how to finish a movie. The first part of his films are often excellent, with good ideas and the second part is not as enjoyable with awful conclusions. I have not watched all his movies, but if I remember “Mirrors”, “Horns” or “Piranha 3D” (“The Hill have Eyes” is a nice movie in my opinion), that’s what I think.
I have watched “Piranha 3D” once again yesterday night, because I wanted to give it a second chance. Despite some well done gory moments (unfortunately already seen elsewhere) this movie is not far from “Sharknado”. What could we think of Jerry O’Connell in a ridiculous role which is not what he deserves (remember “Stand by Me”, “Sliders” or “Jerry McGuire”), or what could we think of Richard Dreyfuss in the opening of the movie? You already know that “Piranha” is not a good film. “Horns” is awful too, with Daniel Radcliffe as transparent as he is used to be. “Mirrors” is a little better with Kiefer Sutherland (Jack Bauer). His lack of enthusiasm is in his role and gives sense to the story.
I’d like to say Alexandre Aja is a great director because he is French maybe. Unfortunately, he is just one director amongst others… Aja makes movies with his heart for now, and I hope that in the future he won’t make movies just for money. He won’t then be much worst.
